The City of Ojai is installing a new dual-port Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station in the City Hall parking lot, located at 401 S. Ventura St.! The Public Works team broke ground on March 7, 2023, and the station is expected to be available for community use by Spring 2023.
In 2018, the City installed a dual-port charging station in the City Hall parking lot and an additional one in the Park N Ride lot at the Ojai Skate Park. As of March 2023, the energy dispensed from these stations have prevented 79,830 kg of greenhouse gas emissions, which is equivalent to planting 2,047 trees and letting them grow for 10 years.
This addition of the newest station will increase the total of public EV charging ports within city limits to 31; three of these stations (with six ports) are provided by the City of Ojai.
All City-owned stations are level 2 chargers, and each port can charge at an average rate of 32 miles of range per hour. The EV charging stations at City Hall are powered in part by the City’s solar electric system.
At its September 13, 2022 meeting, the Ojai City Council authorized staff to apply for the CAL eVIP South Central Coast Initiative Project grant. The City was awarded the grant, which will reimburse $7,000 of the purchase and installation cost, partially funding the project.
This project aligns with the goals of the City’s Air Quality Element and Conservation Element as outlined in the General Plan.
